GitHub has announced the postponement of the requirement to comply with minimum versions of self-hosted runners in GitHub Enterprise Cloud , initially scheduled for an earlier date. Starting September 29, 2026 , runners using versions below 2.329.0 will no longer be able to register or execute new tasks in automated workflows, according to the official GitHub changelog .
This measure applies only to GitHub Enterprise Cloud and not to GitHub Enterprise Server , which remains exempt from this requirement. Companies using outdated versions of Ubuntu (below 26), macOS (below 27), or Xcode (below 27) will need to update their infrastructure to avoid disruptions in their CI/CD pipelines.
Outdated runners will stop functioning as of September 2026, even if they had been active previously.
